Besides being a wonderful motivation for my own study, I teach Classical Tai Chi because I have half a lifetime of experience with this gem of an art, certified approval to teach the art, and the continued support of a Master instructor. At the heart of this, I really enjoy teaching motivated students. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Master Stephen Hwa for his decision to appoint me as a teacher of Classical Tai Chi. I would like to re-affirm my pledge to him and to the corps of other teachers and students. That pledge acknowledges the vast body of knowledge that Classical Tai Chi entails and expresses my appreciation to him for his continuing dedication to the art. I pledge my continued effort as a teacher in this endeavor and to remain humble in the certainty that I am not the source of the knowledge but merely a vessel for its dissemination.
Sincerely,
James Roach

James Roach was born in Buffalo, NY in 1946. He has a degree in Medical Technology and worked for 25 years for U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
In the 1970's, Roach began his Tai Chi studies. He studied Tai Chi as a martial art with the Wu Family in Toronto, Ontario for many years as a senior student and disciple.

Roach began study with Master Stephen Hwa, became a senior student and certified teacher of Classical Tai Chi.
He became actively engaged in study with Master Hwa in April of 2003 and he feels that only then did he find the many "missing pieces" that he had been seeking for so long, the study of Neigong or Internal Discipline.
James apprentice taught under Master Hwa and assisted Master Hwa with workshops starting back in 2005 to present day. James published an Index to the Classical Tai Chi Forum, moderated the Classical Tai Chi email group and currently is the owner of the Classical Tai Chi Facebook page and editor of the Classical Tai Chi Blog.
James has been priviliged to both assist and participate in the production of the DVD Tao of Martial Applications for Classical Tai chi.
Roach teaches classes to staff and students at Buffalo State College. He has taught at the University of Buffalo, and students from Hilbert College, Canisius College.
Besides leading several classes in the Buffalo, NY area he taught in the Community Education Programs of Kenton, West Seneca, Williamsville, Grand Island and Alden School Districts for over a decade.
Other classes have included the Veterans Administration Hospital, YWCA, Dupont Wellness Facility, Federal Employees Wellness Program, Kenmore Village Improvement Society in July 2010 and Buffalo Harbor Place in July 2010.
